Electronic Releases Late Spring 2014

Antidröm – AntidrömThe Association for Depth Sound Recordings

Lush, deep ambient mixing with darker tones, drones and a myriad of strange sounds, vocal samples and percussive rhythms make this album something the ambient fan should not miss.  Fans of Mystified, Carbon Based Lifeforms, FSOL, Herd, Biosphere and Second Thought will love this album.  It’s engaging, thought provoking and progressive.  A true journey if there was ever one to be had in a cosmic sense.  Thank you, Antidrom! I needed this! (4.8 out of 5)

Aka Hige – Opening—(self-released)

An interesting album to say the least. The music here has its roots in techno but it uses that influence to create electro infused ambient/leftfield.  Glitched beats, rich synth, low frequency acidic bloops, and a wide variety of atmospheres create a very rich and solid LP.  There’s a lot of talent in these tracks and I am eager to see what’s cooking for the next release.  It’s hard to draw comparisons to how this music sounds like, so I urge you to check it out for yourself.  Awesome stuff.  (4.8 out of 5)

Somnaphon – An Alignment of Various Things – Bicephalic

Packaged in a sweet looking DVD case, this compilation features a selection of tracks that were released on rare or obscure compilations along with some newer, unreleased material.  I was rather surprised by the sounds this CD was emitting when I first hit play.  Wildly glitched-out synth, distortion and rendered sounds create rhythms and movements that bring this release to life.  It’s like a sound collage brought to form solely by snyth and noises.  This is some intense and lively stuff! Again, this is a release that’s hard to draw comparisons to… I guess if I were pressed, I’d say this would be the more experimental side of Aphex Twin mixed with Xotox, and perhaps a touch of Wolf Eye.  Powerful tuff! About Nick H.

I'm a geek for music whether it be on vinyl, CD, 78 or whatever. My goal is to sniff out the greated music on Earth, specializing in the obscure. I make music myself as well, mostly ambient and sound collage (1 album out and a few remixes so far). I work full time as a professional mascot (it pays the pills) but will soon retire, i hope.
