Shortly after the release of Big Wave’s “Only You” 7 inch, the Beautiful Strange label is gearing up to release a remastering of “Camera Shy” by Lockets on lovely vinyl. Why should you be excited? Well, Beautiful Strange already has an impressive line-up and the Lockets are no exception to that. Secondly, have you listened to Lockets yet?
The album at first-listen was truly different — in a good way! The clever use of synth does not make this just another synth pop album. It effortlessly blends all of its electronic ingredients with the rock elements, creating an ethereal aesthetic that’s irresistible. It’s like they smashed the best retrofuturistic synth pop / new wave sounds into prime indie vibes, which gives this a unique spin.
Each track on this LP has something to give, which I like. The standouts for me include “Run,” “Catch Me,” “Bitter Teeth,” and “Crush.” If I were to draw comparisons to other artists, it wouldn’t be terribly easy, but the first things that come to mind are a very mellow Ladytron mixed with Beth Orton with sweet elements of shoegaze. Check it out for yourself.
The LP version will be released via Beautiful Strange’s webpage and on the band’s Bandcamp. Grab you copies as soon as they’re released since they are very limited!
