A repost from my personal blog, December 2010

FSOL Environment 3

ARTIST: The Future Sound of London
Title: Environments 3
Released: 2010
Genre: Ambient, Modern Classical, abstract, IDM

It would appear that after we’ve waited fourteen years between the rumored release and the actual release of Envrionments 1, that FSOL are making up for it by releasing an entire series under this project. Not that that’s a bad thing.

Here, there is a lot of new material, something rare as of late in the FSOL realm. Granted, there are a few remixes of older elements from Dead Cities/We Have Explosive EP, but it is presented in a decent and refreshing light, and even though I feel I can be FSOL’s most annoying and tough critic, I still find this presentation new and engaging.

The music here does in fact, range between modern classical and ambient, with organic and acoustic samples (flutes, guitar, etc…). It is then fused elegantly with ambient and abstract, with slight echos of their older ISDN shows. The listener should play through the entire album, as I feel this was meant for a wholistic listen rather than a casual tack skimming.

About Nick H.

I'm a geek for music whether it be on vinyl, CD, 78 or whatever. My goal is to sniff out the greated music on Earth, specializing in the obscure. I make music myself as well, mostly ambient and sound collage (1 album out and a few remixes so far). I work full time as a professional mascot (it pays the pills) but will soon retire, i hope.
